In the first home for children aged half a year to 6 years old opened and was known as "Sunshine Home for Blind Babies". It was here that care and education were provided for visually impaired children, helping them get a head start on the process of learning Braille and communication. This was especially important for young children who had not yet learned the art of Braille and help educate them on various ways of the world. People were no longer restricted by borders for information and it opened up many new avenues for generating revenue to help provide information and assistance for those who need it.
Without the RNIB, the educational and communication opportunities afforded to the visually impaired these days would not exist and the support they provide to over 2 million people in the UK alone would not be available. RNIB found they were good at generating ideas, but not as good at sharing information, prioritising and developing ideas, and delivering new products. We also helped them develop internal innovation processes to address these weaknesses.
We then worked with them to design a series of training workshops to empower fundraising staff across the organisation to develop innovative products, with the ultimate aim of fostering an innovative culture within RNIB. The Innovation Services Team supported this project throughout the innovation process — from helping with idea generation to developing the business case for the product and pitching it internally.
